Heather Carroll

About Heather

Heather is a HMCTS appointed Intermediary and has been assisting vulnerable people to give evidence in the justice system since 2019. She currently works in the family courts and also as a Registered Intermediary where she has assisted over 300 witnesses in police interviews and at court. She has strong experience assisting vulnerable people with communication difficulties, mental health conditions, neurodiversity, learning disabilities / difficulties and challenging behaviour.

She began teaching Modern Languages in mainstream secondary school and went on to work in a special school, where she became a senior leader with responsibility for Safeguarding and looked after children.

During this time she supported many vulnerable, ‘disenfranchised’ children and their families who were not attending education and/or were permanently excluded from school etc. Her work included participating in Child Protection Conferences, Looked After Child reviews, assisting the Youth Offending Team to manage those pupils subject to Intensive Supervision and Surveillance programmes (ISSP), supporting pupils in custody and attending meetings regarding anti-social behaviour, housing, and acting as Appropriate Adult.

Heather is a trauma-informed intermediary who is warm, non-judgemental and approachable and has the skills required to quickly build rapport with the vulnerable person she is assisting, whilst establishing mutual respect with all stakeholders of the court.
