About Joanna
Joanna is a highly experienced Registered and HMCTS Appointed Intermediary. She has over 10 years’ experience in the field and has completed more than 600 cases in the Criminal and Family Courts across England and Wales with vulnerable witnesses, defendants and respondents. Joanna is a communication specialist with a background in Speech and Language Therapy.
She has extensive experience of assessing and implementing communication strategies for adolescents and adults with a range of learning difficulties and mental health conditions. Joanna is accredited with the Ministry of Justice and has a number of responsibilities in this role, including the recruitment, training and mentoring of new Intermediaries nationwide.
She also has experience of delivering training for legal professionals on the Intermediary role. Joanna is Director of Training and Recruitment at the Intermediary Cooperative. Joanna has completed numerous training courses relevant to the Intermediary role and participates in ongoing Continuing Professional Development to keep her skills and knowledge up to date.
Joanna is passionate about enabling all vulnerable people to fully participate in the court process, including understanding the proceedings, giving their account, and making informed decisions regarding how their case progresses. As such, she has a very high standard of work at all stages of her involvement, from assessment and report writing, through to facilitating communication in the court environment.
She feels strongly that consistency of Intermediary is important for vulnerable service users and, as such, strives to provide the highest level of commitment to any case that she becomes involved in.
